Summary:

In this article the author introduced the last great postwar photographer who died at 99 years old. Lovers, naked people and the scenes of Paris streets are the main subjects of Ronis’s photographs, and his photographs record the significance of Paris in black and white scenes of daily life. Ronis always had respect for the people he photographed. Some famous people praised Ronis as the poet of a happy life, the narrator of daily lives. Late in Ronis’s life, he still kept up photography. At Ronis’s young time, he gave up his music career in favor of photography, and he won a large number of honors during his whole life. Ronis’s death did the damage to French photography.

Reaction:

From the article I learned about the great French photographer Willy Ronis’s photography life. His positive attitude toward photography and his persevere and with his photography career moved me. To the things which we are really interested in, we should keep doing with them no matter what difficulties might happen during the process. Even though the hi-tech is so developed today, Ronis still tried to take the natural photos. Like the Fine Art field, art students should develop their hand-made skill instead of depending on the Picture Software completely.

Summary:

The article introduces the three most popular kinds of interior design; they are modern, romantic and French. People who want the defined furniture with clean lines prefer the modern style. The colors of this style seem bright and bold. The second style is the French. It looks natural and country. This style has bright, detailed and distressed furniture and the French style’s colors are light and soft; what’s more, the flooring is often a wood or tile that looks like it has been used. Romantic style is the last style which the author introduced. Its colors are almostly with deep tones, and this style’s rooms make people feel familiar and comfortable. The author advised comparing different styles in order to make your home unique and make it look like your own style.

Reaction:

After reading this article, I learned about three popular kinds of Interior Design which are modern, romantic and French, and also the color, types of furniture and the room’s feeling of each kind. I prefer the modern style. If I have my own home, I want it to look fashionable and neat, the furniture with clean lines, the walls with bright colors. I also have more interesting in Interior Design among any kinds of design departments. The article gives more information about the interior design. It makes me encourage myself to quickly finish CESL in order to start my major—design, as soon as possible.

Call for investment in the arts. (2009, Sep 21). BBC News. Retrieved Sept 22, 2009, from

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/8266153.stm

Summary:

In the article “Call for investment in the arts” the author describes the importance of investment in arts of London, and the two famous men, Johnson and Spacey, claimed that the investment in art should not be reduced. London’s tourism is a necessary part of its economy and most visitors travel to London because of its art and culture. But in recent months, the investment in arts has been reduced; some people considered that museums and theatres are a luxury. Johnson and Spacey claimed that London was remarkable for arts and culture and also both of them are valuable natural resources for London. During the slump time, we should protect and not stop the investment in distinct cultural life to save our business.

Reaction:

After reading this article, I though that combining art and culture is the way to help the social development; as an art student I should be conscientious about learning professional knowledge and using it to create wealth for myself and also for my country. Art is not just a personal aesthetic behavior, it also can create wealth; culture is not just a nature recorded of the facts in the past; if it is used in a sensible way, it also can create wealth.

Summary

In this article it introduces an artist called Joyce Curvin. She uses the junk, like the used bottles, jars and cans to create unimaginable animal figures. The material around her always brings her inspiration, and she also contributes the creations, which she made by herself. Curvin told people that using is better than wasting, and you can have many ways to deal with things before you throw them away.

Reaction

Through the reading, I learned many things from Curvin. She makes the junk recycle, and creates them into the new figure, which can be valued. As well as the field of design, there is no one who said that only expensive or new things could be used in the creative work. The materials, which are around us or at our hands, also can be valued by using wisdom, even if they are rubbish. For designers, to make use of anything that can be used is important.

By using these ways Cheapo Depot flourished at that time.

Reaction

My major is industrial design and is about furniture design, car design and interior design. No matter what kind of design, its final goals is to satisfy marketplace requirement and fit in with consumer's taste. So besides my major field, I am also interested in the reading about how to run your own business.I think this article's topic is a good example for the recession-wracked days.Through this article I got some inspiration. Firstdon't give up; even in a difficult timewe should calm down to find out other ways to solve the problem. Second, don't always follow the old rules, we should bring our creativity to think of new solutions. The third,as a designer,we need to come up with more ways to satisfy the market requirement so that our products can be the most useful and well-known.
